Pathways to Employment Expo

Schenker Australia participates in the Inaugural Employment Opportunities Exhibition at Redbank Plains State High School

As a top employer, DB Schenker was asked to participate in the Pathways to Employment Exhibition held at Redbank Plains State High School supported by the Ipswich city council. DB Schenker is grateful to have a long history of creating traineeship programs and up-skilling the local community in Ipswich to create new employment opportunities and further develop our workforce.

The exhibition took place on the 10th of May with DB Schenker taking part as a proud stallholder. At the exhibition, DB Schenker offered the wider community the opportunity to come in and talk to us about what we do and demonstrate interest in our area of work.

Along with DB Schenker, many other esteemed organisations had a presence including: Queensland Health, Uber, Police, Defence and Apprenticeships QLD. In addition to companies which offered employment opportunities the event also hosted organisations which help people prepare for after school or in finding work. These organisations included Major Training, Recruitment at Top Office, the ATO, Centrelink and Making Career Choices.

DB Schenker maintains a very strong relationship with Redbank Plains State High School. This partnership has created the opportunity for DB Schenker to receive work experience students over the last 2 years which are involved in their GENR8 program.  These students come into the DB Schenker offices for a total of 20 days (usually from March until end of the school year) one day a week during which they are put into an area of the business for 5 weeks at a time.  Last year’s work experience students are still a part of the DB Schenker team, working as Trainees facilitated through MyFreightCareer.  These trainees are a valuable addition to the DB Schenker team and we hope that they will continue on a long and prosperous career with DB Schenker after their traineeships have been completed.

This was the first Pathways to Employment Expo run by Redbank Plains State High School and DB Schenker is honoured to have been a part of it. With plans to focus on more marketing to the community next year, DB Schenker will be excited to once again participate with even more people coming through the doors.
